Mumbai doctors strike tomorrow

Protesting the police “atrocity” against the students, the Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) will observe a black day sporting black bands at work today. “The police attack on the students was unjustified,” said MARD spokesperson Dr Yoganand Patil. Patil, however, clarified that, “MARD with 2000 city resident medics as members was neutral on the reservation policy.” Sources suggested this was because many of the MARD doctors including a few office bearers were from the backward class. Mumbai’s Indian Medical Association (IMA) has meanwhile decided to observe a one-day token strike today protesting against the incident on Monday.

Clinics shut on Mon

Though emergency services in hospitals will not be affected, major operations will be postponed for a day. The strike will not affect the ICU (intensive care unit). “Barring emergency cases all the services will be shut down,” Suniti Kshirsagar told Sunday.
“We are trying to mobilise as many doctors as possible.” If the matter intensifies, more than two lakh doctors all over the country will go on strike.
